Games of the XXVIIIth Olympiad in Athens, Greece
ATHENS, Greece New York City's (b) billionaire mayor will return from Athens two dollars richer. But what he's really hoping to bring home is progress toward winning the 2012 Olympics.
Bloomberg exchanged gifts with Athens mayor Dora Bakoyiannis (bak-oh-YAH'-nee) at a reception on the roof deck of City Hall. He brought a banner and a plate. She gave a representation of the city symbol, an owl.
Does she have a favorite in the competition?
"I'm not allowed to have a favorite," she told reporters. Paris, London, Moscow and Madrid are also finalists for the 2012 Games.
And the two dollars?
Bloomberg says he won it in a bet with an Australian friend on the U-S-Australia men's basketball game.
"I don't know if it's legal," he said.
